Summary of Degree Requirements

University Requirements

• 数学0701 (4 s.h.)和/或 0701年英格 (4 s.h.), if required by placement testing.
• All Temple students must take a minimum of two writing-intensive courses as part of the 主要的. For the English 主要的, these courses are 2096年英格 and a 4000 level Capstone Seminar.

College of 文科 Requirements

• Completion of a minimum of 123 credits, including:
  • 90 credits in CLA/CST courses;
  • 45 credits of which must be at the upper level (numbered 2000-4999).
    • Distribution Requirement for Humanities 主要的s: Six upper level credits must be earned in the Social 科学, 科学, and/or interdisciplinary subject areas. Select from the following CLA departments and programs: Africology & African 美国研究, 美国研究, 人类学, 亚洲研究, 刑事司法, Cybersecurity and Human Behavior, 经济学, Environmental Studies, 性别, 性, 和妇女研究, Geography and Urban Studies, 全球研究, 历史, 犹太研究, Latin 美国研究, 女同性恋, 同性恋, 双性恋, and Transgender Studies, 文科, 神经科学(CLA), 政治科学, 心理学, 和社会学, or any department in the College of 科学 and Technology.
  • GPA不低于2分.0, cumulatively, in all CLA/CST coursework, and in the 主要的 department.
  • Only courses in which a student receives a grade of at least C- can satisfy GenEd, 主要的, 小, or CLA Foreign Language and 全球研究 requirements.
  • 专业 Development Requirement
    • All students in the College of 文科 are required to take a 1 credit seminar in professional development. 班1002 专业 Development for 文科 Majors or 1801年英格 专业 Development for 英语专业的学生s would be an appropriate choice for this 主要的. Several of our larger departments have alternatives for their program, these alternative options may be found on the CLA 学院要求 page. Only one course in this category may count towards graduation.
  • Foreign Language/全球研究 Requirements:
    • All students must complete or test out of the first and second levels of a foreign language - these courses are numbered 1001 and 1002;
    • All students must complete at least one course from the GenEd Global/World Society category; and
    • All Bachelor of 艺术 students must complete one of the following options:
      • Third semester of a foreign language;
      • Demonstrated proficiency beyond the third semester in a foreign language (placement exam or certification from the language department);
      • Take one 全球研究 course from the list on the CLA 学院要求 page;
      • Study Abroad at an approved program; or
      • Take a second 通识教育 Global/World Society course.
    • Notes on Foreign Language Study
      • The third level of language is numbered 1003 in French, 西班牙语, and Portuguese and numbered 2001 in all other foreign language subjects.
      • Students are strongly encouraged to take the third level of a foreign language as it is the minimum required for election to the prestigious honor society Phi Beta Kappa. (Taking the course does not guarantee admission but not taking it guarantees exclusion.)

一般的选修课 are typically one-third of a student's program of study and can be focused on a second 主要的, 一个小, or towards some other personal enrichment or professional goals. See an academic advisor for assistance in developing an academic plan for these courses.

Curriculum Overlap Policy: Students may combine the English 主要的 with the 小 in Creative Writing but only two courses may be used for both programs of study.
